The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) offered up to $2,000 in total funding to registered apprentices—$1,000 per completed level—in designated Red Seal trades. This grant aimed to help apprentices offset expenses during their technical training and progression through eligible apprenticeship programs.
Financing terms and conditions
- Taxable grant of $1,000 awarded per level (first and second year/level) completed in a designated Red Seal trade program, up to a maximum total of $2,000 per apprentice.

- Completion of the first year or level in a designated Red Seal trade apprenticeship program.
- Completion of the second year or level in a designated Red Seal trade apprenticeship program.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be registered with the provincial or territorial authority responsible for apprenticeship in a designated Red Seal trade.
- The project in question must relate to the successful completion of a first or second year (level/block) of training in an eligible apprenticeship program.
- The application must demonstrate registration and completion of the required levels using official supporting documents issued by the competent authority.

How to apply

Gather supporting documents
- Collect all required supporting documents according to your province or territory of registration
- If you do not have your supporting documents, contact your apprenticeship issuing authority
- Ensure you meet all eligibility requirements before proceeding

Gather personal information
- Prepare your Social Insurance Number (SIN), apprentice ID number, and banking information
- Ensure you have all personal identification and contact details needed

Submit supporting documents
- Submit your supporting documents after your application
- Choose to submit online, by mail, or in person to Service Canada
- Ensure documents are received within 12 months of your application deadline or by the final deadline
Additional information
- The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) is considered taxable income; recipients will receive a T4A slip (or Relevé 1 for Quebec residents) for tax reporting.
- Receiving the AIG does not affect Employment Insurance (EI) benefits and does not need to be reported as earnings for EI purposes.
- If you owe family support payments, grant funds may be redirected to a third party under the Family Orders and Agreements Enforcement Assistance Act (FOAEAA).
- After March 31, 2025, only supporting documents for prior accepted applications will be processed, with a final deadline of March 31, 2026, for submission.
