Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Nova Scotia beekeepers
  • Mi’kmaq conducting farming activities in Mi’kmaw communities

Eligible expenses

  • Hive feeders, sucrose pumping systems, and tank agitators
  • Hive strapping, pallet forks and brackets, and truck bee crane or boom lift attachments
  • Truck tailgate lift attachments
  • Oxalic vaporizers, disease monitoring kits, and laboratory diagnostic fees
  • VCPR establishment costs

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Travel expenses
  • Administrative and general overhead
  • Building costs, modifications, and sea containers
  • Multiple pieces of equipment with the same function
  • Operating expenses, existing staff wages, small hand tools, and HST

Selection criteria

  • Priority is given to mid-size beekeepers transitioning to full time

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare the application
    • Complete the application form.
    • New applicants since 2023 must complete the Program Funding Registration form.
    • Returning applicants must update business information as needed.
  • Step 2: Submit the application
    • Submit a complete application by May 15, 2026.
  • Step 3: Review and approval
    • The Department of Agriculture reviews completed applications after the deadline.
    • If approved, applicants receive a Letter of Agreement.
  • Step 4: Sign the agreement
    • Review, sign, and return the Letter of Agreement within 30 days.
  • Step 5: Submit the claim
    • Complete the Program Claim Form.
    • Attach invoices and proof of payment.
    • Submit the claim by February 28, 2027.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed after the deadline by the Department of Agriculture
  • Priority may be given to mid-size beekeepers transitioning to full time
  • Approved applicants receive a Letter of Agreement with the funding terms
  • The signed Letter of Agreement must be returned within 30 days
  • Claims are submitted after approval with invoices and proof of payment
