Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Only charities registered with CCRA are eligible for grants from The Altona Community Foundation.
  • If a second party organization is providing access to a charitable number, a letter documenting permission for this usage must be provided by the applicant.
  • There must be an affiliation between the registrant and the applicant if a second party charitable number is utilized.

  • Pay down mortgages or reduce deficits
  • Support operating expenses
  • Projects already completed
  • Political activities
  • Direct religious activities of religious groups or organizations, except when community access is available and will significantly benefit the community at large

Eligible geographic areas

  • The Town of Altona, Town of Gretna, Village of Rosenfeld, and the area around Altona generally consisting of the Municipality of Rhineland (excluding the Town of Plum Coulee)

Selection criteria

  • Preference is given to projects which benefit the whole community.
  • Preference is given to projects which encourage more efficient use of community resources.
  • Preference is given to projects which demonstrate new approaches and techniques in the solution of community problems.
  • Preference is given to projects which address the underlying causes of problems in our society.
  • Preference is given to projects which promote volunteer participation.

How to apply

  • Applications must be made on an Altona Community Foundation application form.
  • Please submit your grant application and all supplementary documents to: Altona Community Foundation, Box 2076 Altona, MB R0G 0B0, info@altonacommunityfoundation.com.

Processing and Agreement

  • The application will be reviewed by a Granting Committee of the Board, which makes a recommendation to grant or deny to the Board for approval.
  • Grants will be awarded to successful applications.
  • All grants are subject to review by the Board.
  • If the scope of the project has changed after the grant has been awarded, the board must be notified.
  • Approval for changes is at the discretion of the board and may result in the grant being declared void.
  • If denied, applicants will be encouraged to re-apply during the next granting cycle.

Additional information

  • Grant applications are called for twice annually – in April and October.
  • Applications must be made on an Altona Community Foundation application form.
  • The application may be saved and completed later using “Save and Resume Later.”
  • A copy of the completed application will be emailed to the applicant and the Foundation, which will confirm receipt.
