Who is eligible?

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare the application
    • Complete the required application package.
    • Arrange the cover page, research proposal, CVs, letters of support, and other requested materials.
  • Step 2: Submit by email
    • Send the complete application as a single PDF file to research@als.ca.
    • Submit it by the stated deadline and request delivery and read receipts.
  • Step 3: Receive confirmation
    • Wait for the acknowledgment email confirming receipt of the application.
    • Follow up with the ALS Canada Research Team if no confirmation is received.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by a panel of experts selected by Brain Canada and ALS Canada.
  • Reviewers assess applicant merit, research quality and feasibility, supervisory support, and relevance to ALS research.
  • Some applications are live scored and ranked by the full panel.
  • Funding decisions are recommended after discussion with ALS Canada and Brain Canada leadership and approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Applicants receive anonymized reviewer comments and a summary of major discussion points.

Additional information

  • The program is offered in three schemes: Doctoral, Postdoctoral, and Clinical.
  • Applicants may be asked to provide proof of acceptance for presentations.
  • Annual progress and financial reports are required after funding begins.
  • All publications and presentations must acknowledge ALS Canada, the Government of Canada (Health Canada), and Brain Canada.
