Overview
Supports multidisciplinary ALS research projects up to $500,000. Funds research to identify causes or treatments and improve quality of life through symptom management and family support.
Activities funded
- Research to identify causes of ALS and/or related neurological diseases.
- Research to develop or advance treatments for ALS and/or related neurological diseases.
- Research on symptom management to maximize function and minimize disability for people living with ALS.
- Research to optimize quality of life through supports for people with ALS and their families.
- Multidisciplinary, team-based research projects combining expertise in novel or innovative ways.

Documents Needed
Eligibility
- The proposal must be submitted by a team of multiple investigators.
- The project must focus on identifying causes of, or treatments for, ALS and/or related neurological diseases (including primary lateral sclerosis, progressive muscular atrophy, and ALS/FTLD).
- Alternatively, the project can focus on maximizing function, minimizing disability, and optimizing quality of life through symptom management and support for people or families living with ALS.
- The project should align with the program’s intent to support novel or innovative research approaches (including multidisciplinary collaboration).

- Multidisciplinary research teams (including investigators from outside the ALS field)

- Research project expenses (including costs incurred outside Canada, up to the program’s limit)

- Email the single PDF application to the ALS Canada Research Team
- Submit by the program deadline
Processing and Agreement
- Applicants can expect an application decision in November.
Additional information
- Two funding streams are available: Seed (Stream 1) and Development (Stream 2).
- Decisions are communicated in November.
