Income Support child-care and school-expense rules updated
The Child Care policy page now covers a broader set of qualifying situations, including active job search, education or training, approved treatment, medical need, child welfare-related opinions, and emergencies, and it adds new substantiation and reporting instructions. It also clarifies payment rules for private babysitting, grandparent care, licensed or approved child care programs, deposits, registration fees, and related exceptions. The Children’s School Expenses page now shows annual allowance rates by child’s age or grade, expands the list of covered school costs, and adds new substantiation and processing instructions, including the EMP3428C process and annual LISA budgeting steps.

Who is eligible?
- Albertans who are working or seeking employment
- Albertans who have barriers to full employment
- Albertans participating full-time or part-time in training programs
Who is not eligible
- Members who are not present in Alberta
- Members who are incarcerated
- Members convicted in the previous 12 months of the specified fraud or offence provisions
- Members of barriers to full employment household units or expected to work or working household units if an adult member receives a benefit under the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped Act, except under section 3.04
- Members of expected to work or working household units who fail to comply with a program obligation for more than 6 consecutive months, and for the following 3 consecutive months except under section 100

- After providing the required information, call the Income Support Contact Centre to confirm your eligibility.

- Clients in the Income Support program need to maintain their files and update their records if there are any changes.
