The Energy Affordability Program FAQ now includes a new Heat Pump section for cold-climate air source heat pumps. The new guidance says electrically heated homes and, for a limited time, oil-heated homes may qualify, and it adds a new online form and phone option for applying. The FAQ also says a delivery agent will contact applicants within three business days and describes the heat pump offering as no-cost, including installation, warranty, follow-up visits, and oil tank or HVAC removal conditions.

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Ontario homeowners or renters who are responsible for paying the electricity bill.
  • Residents of social housing may also be eligible.
  • Electrically heated homes may qualify for a cold climate air source heat pump.
  • Oil-heated homes may qualify for a cold climate air source heat pump if the homeowner has an above-ground oil tank.

How to apply

  • Check your eligibility.
  • Call 1-844-770-3148 or complete the online application form.
  • If you complete the online application form, a program delivery agent will contact you within three business days.

Processing and Agreement

  • During the in-home energy assessment, an energy expert will ask you to sign a Participant Agreement and will verify the documents used to prove your program eligibility.
  • After the assessment, the EAP delivery partner will review the information collected to determine whether your home qualifies for upgrades.
  • You will be notified of the assessment results by letter or email.
  • If your home qualifies, the EAP delivery partner will work with you to arrange an installation date, and you may accept or decline any upgrades offered to you.

Additional information

  • Cold climate air source heat pumps provided through the program include a 10-year parts and labour warranty.
  • A follow-up visit is included at the one- and two-year mark for system checks, filter cleaning, and customer education.
  • For homes currently heated with oil, the offering includes removal of the above-ground oil tank.
