- Salaries and benefits of employees directly related to completing the activities of the work plan, including science co-ordination
- Professional or specialized contracted services, such as research agreements and consultant or expert services
- Travel costs directly related to the project, including transportation, meals, incidentals, and accommodations
- Capital assets required for the execution of the project’s activities
- Other direct project costs such as materials and supplies, shipping, translation, conference or registration fees, and knowledge transfer associated costs
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Regular and routine monitoring for pests and diseases
- Any costs incurred before April 1, 2023 or after March 31, 2028
- Costs related to marketing activities and business promotion, activities intended to directly influence or lobby governments, and hospitality costs
- Travel insurance, non-essential options for rental vehicles, and travel or accommodation expenditures for federal government employees not directly involved in a Vote 1 research activity
- The purchase of land or buildings, the purchase or lease of private or personal vehicles, and other costs not specifically required for the project
Selection criteria
- The project intent and scope
- The soundness of the proposed scientific methodology and experimental design
- The relevance, risk, feasibility, impact, and realistic timelines of the research
- The organization’s scientific, financial, managerial, and intellectual property management capacity, where applicable
- Alignment with the program’s funding principles, with priority for proposals that meet or exceed them and for first-time program applicants in the review process
How to apply
- Step 1: Submit the project summary form
- Download and complete the form.
- Email the completed form to AAFC.
- Contact the program if email submission is not possible.
- Step 2: Await program review
- AAFC reviews the summary form for eligibility and fit with program priorities.
- A program officer may contact you about the project.
- Step 3: Submit the full application if invited
- Complete the application form and required attachments.
- Review the form for errors before submission.
- Submit the package using the method provided by AAFC.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are acknowledged after submission of the Stage 2 package.
- Applications are checked for completeness before full assessment.
- AAFC reviews applications against program criteria and priorities.
- Approved applicants receive a written decision and negotiate a contribution agreement and/or CRDA.
- Progress, performance, and financial reports are required if funding is approved.
Additional information
- By submitting the Project Summary Form, the applicant agrees that project information may be shared to determine eligibility for other programs and to discuss other potential funding opportunities
- Quebec-based organizations must demonstrate compliance with the M-30 Act during the assessment process and before entering into a contribution agreement
- If approved, project-specific intellectual property requirements will be included in the contribution agreement and/or Collaborative Research and Development Agreement
- Projects involving official language minority communities or both official languages may carry agreement commitments, and public acknowledgements of support may be requested in both official languages
