Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Red River Métis businesses engaged in land-based agricultural production anywhere in Canada
  • Red River Métis Citizens engaged in agricultural production

Who is not eligible

  • For-profit entities
  • Governments, including federal, provincial/territorial, or municipal administrations
  • Crown corporations or other federal institutions
  • Public or parapublic groups or organizations, such as schools, colleges, universities, school boards, and public libraries

Eligible expenses

  • Costs associated with the creation of an Applicant’s action plan, and labour costs to perform approved activities
  • Professional Agrologist (P.Ag) or Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) services; planning, technical assessments, engineering or technical design fees; other agronomic support
  • Soil testing and soil mapping costs
  • Nitrogen management costs and equipment, including manure management, PCU, nitrification and urease inhibitors, split application of fertilizer, additional fertilizer application costs, fertilizer application equipment and upgrades, soil organic amendments and synthetic fertilizer substitutes, and nitrogen application in spring instead of fall
  • Rotational grazing fencing and livestock watering systems powered by renewable energy; seed and planting costs for increasing legumes in rotations and implementing low methane pastures

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Purchase, rental, lease, or sale of land, buildings, facilities, inventory, and associated taxes and fees
  • Normal operating costs associated with conducting or expanding a business
  • Materials or services purchased outside the eligible invoice dates
  • Any cost that is eligible for a rebate, credit, or refund
  • Biosolids

Selection criteria

  • Applications from Red River Métis businesses with less than 50% Red River Métis ownership will be considered only after those with 50% or greater ownership

  • Contact the Program by email to request the forms and other documents required to submit in the application.
  • Submit a fully completed application package.

Processing and Agreement

  • All project costs and activities must first be approved by the MMF before any expenses incurred by the Applicant are eligible for payment
  • All in-kind activities require approval from MMF program staff and will be determined together with Applicants on or after the date of their application approval
  • In-kind activities must be completed by the Applicant no later than March 31, 2026
