How to apply

Obtain GATE Front Office Credentials
- Email registrationafa@gov.ab.ca at least five business days before the deadline to request your GATE Front Office login credentials.
- Provide your legal name, the scholarship you are applying for, and your email address in the email.
- Await receipt of your username and password via email.

Prepare Application Documents
- Write a letter outlining your background in visual arts, interest, and intended use of the scholarship.
- Prepare a resume or CV focusing on your artistic activity.
- Compile a detailed description of your chosen visual arts educational or training program. Include proof of acceptance if available or detailed descriptions and schedules of preferred and alternate choices.
- Gather a scanned document providing legal proof of age (birth certificate, driver’s license, passport, or citizenship certificate).
- Obtain a current signed letter of reference from a suitable referee.
- Create a one-page inventory of your submitted images, including details such as title, medium, size, and year.
- Prepare a set of up to 10 digital images of your work and a media file sample, if applicable.

Complete Online Application
- Log into the GATE Front Office with your username and password.
- Fill out the online forms with applicant information, contact information, project description, and e-sign the Applicant Agreement.
- Upload all required attachments in the specified format.

Submit Application
- Review your application for completeness and accuracy.
- Submit your application through the GATE Front Office before 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on the deadline date.
- If needed, submit any large files via email to vaAFA@gov.ab.ca or mail a hard copy CD or USB with your project number labeled.

- Receive confirmation of your submission from GATE Front Office.
- Retain the confirmation for your records.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed by an expert panel.
- Applications are assessed against artistic merit, program relevance, artistic development impact, and the applicant’s experience.
- Funding is not guaranteed for any application.
- Successful and unsuccessful applicants are notified of the decision.
- No expert panel comments are provided.
