Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • BC-based interdisciplinary research teams
  • Researchers at eligible BC host institutions
  • Health system organizations eligible to hold funding in BC

Who is not eligible

  • Postdoctoral fellows, research associates, and adjunct faculty as primary applicants
  • Postdoctoral fellows and research associates as co-leads
  • Government of British Columbia employees as primary applicants or co-leads
  • Health Research BC employees and staff as team members

Eligible expenses

  • Supplies, materials, and special services
  • Salaries for technical personnel and trainee stipends
  • Equipment maintenance or essential equipment purchases
  • Knowledge translation, dissemination, and collaboration travel
  • PWLE engagement costs, including honoraria, travel, events, and caregiving services

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Independent investigator salaries and consulting fees
  • Indirect or overhead costs
  • General office or lab equipment and supplies
  • Sabbatical, course release, and parental leave costs
  • Alcohol and airfare bought with personal points

How to apply

  • Step 1: Create or access your ApplyNet account
    • Log in to Health Research BC ApplyNet.
    • Register if you do not already have an account.
  • Step 2: Submit the letter of intent
    • Complete the LOI form in ApplyNet.
    • Include project overview and key team details.
    • Submit by the LOI deadline.
  • Step 3: Complete the full application
    • Prepare the full application after invitation to proceed.
    • Include the research proposal, collaboration plan, budget, and supporting documents.
    • Submit through ApplyNet by the full application deadline.
  • Step 4: Complete post-award requirements
    • Successful applicants must confirm acceptance.
    • Institutional approvals must be completed before funding is released.

Processing and Agreement

  • LOIs are screened for eligibility and relevance by Health Research BC staff
  • Full applications are reviewed by external peer reviewers
  • PWLE top-up requests are reviewed by a PWLE panel
  • Final funding decisions are made by the partners after peer review
  • Successful applicants must confirm acceptance and complete institutional approvals before funding starts
