Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Organizations, including levels of government.
- Conservation groups.
- Applicants do not have to be registered societies.
Who is not eligible
- Private landowners submitting applications for work on their own lands.
Eligible expenses
- Wages and contract labour costs.
- Honorarium, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Local Knowledge Holders.
- Materials and supplies up to a maximum of $10,000.
- Mileage and other travel expenses.
- Administration fee up to 15%.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Marine projects, except for activities that occur in estuary habitat.
- Salmon-only projects or projects focused on federally managed species that do not also benefit provincially managed fish species or their habitats.
- Fish rearing, farming, stocking, feeding, or hatchery projects.
- Projects focused solely on general education, programming, publications and signage; general staff training; single-day events, conferences or workshops; electronic databases, websites or file systems; or media, communications, marketing materials, or data collection for maps.
- Invasive species programs, capital assets, infrastructure, land, tenure, lease or licenses, legal fees, law enforcement, lobbying costs, and salaries for regular Provincial government employees.
Selection criteria
- Applications are ranked by how well they meet the grant criteria in their responses to the application questions.
- Applications that clearly demonstrate a strong conservation need and conservation outcome are highly ranked.
- Final review considers available funding and best fit with HCTF’s Trust Purposes and strategic plan.
How to apply
- Submit the proposal online through the HCTF Survey Apply system.
- All applications must be submitted using Survey Apply; HCTF cannot accept applications by email.
Processing and Agreement
- Submitted proposals are reviewed in March through April, and final funding decisions are made in May by an HCTF subcommittee of the Board of Directors.
- Applicants are notified in June through the online Survey Apply system.
- After notification and approval of any funding conditions, the recipient must log in to Survey Apply to review, sign, and submit the Conditional Grant Agreement.
- Funding conditions must be addressed in writing by the recipient and approved by HCTF before any part of the Conditional Grant is released.
- The Grant Report must be submitted within Survey Apply and include written commentary on completed activities and outcomes, a listing of expenditures, and a reasonable number of high-quality digital photos of fieldwork components.
