Overview

This program funds Indigenous-led work that removes barriers to justice in northern Ontario. Funding has no fixed maximum, but requests over $100,000 are unlikely, and supported activities can include rights education and community-based legal supports rooted in western and/or Indigenous legal systems.

Documents Needed

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be an Indigenous-led organization, group, or collective.
  • The organization must be created, governed, and guided by Indigenous people.
  • At least 51% of formal Board, Council, or Committee members must be Indigenous.
  • The organization must primarily serve Indigenous Peoples and advance community wellness and resilience.
  • Proposed activities must serve northern Ontario.

  • Northern Ontario (Territorial Districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Muskoka, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Rainy River, Sudbury, Timiskaming, and Thunder Bay)

Selection criteria

How to apply

  • Step 1: Submit Letter of Interest (LOI)
    • Prepare a short LOI to confirm eligibility.
    • Submit the LOI between July 28 and September 19, 2025.
  • Step 2: Receive invitation to apply
    • Wait for eligibility confirmation.
    • Receive a personalized link to the full application (invitations sent October 1, 2025).
  • Step 3: Complete and submit full application
    • Complete the full application using the personalized link.
    • Access application support from the IPRF team as needed.
    • Submit the full application by October 27, 2025.

Processing and Agreement

  • LOIs are reviewed to confirm eligibility before applicants can proceed.
  • Eligible applicants receive an invitation and a personalized link to complete the full application (invitations sent October 1, 2025).
  • Full applications are assessed and funding decisions are made in December 2025.

Additional information

  • Two-step process includes a Letter of Interest (LOI) stage before the full application.
