Overview
Trico Foundation provides up to $25,000 per project to Alberta-based charitable organizations engaged in social entrepreneurship. Funding supports next-step learning and testing activities that help advance a social enterprise model to address social problems.
Activities funded
- Initiatives that advance a charity’s social enterprise journey through learning and experimentation.
- Testing and iterating social enterprise approaches (including frugal testing) to learn and pivot where needed.
- Activities that support using products or services to address social problems and close gaps in society.
Examples of admissible projects:

Pilot an upcycled textile product line employing newcomer trainees

Pilot sliding-scale meal kits that fund food-security programs
Documents Needed
Eligibility
- The applicant must be an Alberta-based charitable organization.
- The organization must be engaged in social entrepreneurship using a business model (selling products or services) to solve social problems.
- The proposed work must support progress in the organization’s social enterprise journey (i.e., funding to take a next learning step).
- The organization must have clarity on its intended impact vision and a high-level plan.
- The approach should reflect a testing mindset (e.g., learning, pivoting, frugal testing) rather than only working to a fixed plan.

Processing and Agreement
- If the funder sees a potential match with its focus area, it will respond within 10 business days.
- If a funding request exceeds the remaining annual budget, a team member will contact the applicant to discuss options for moving forward.

- Annual program budget is $250,000 and is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis for qualifying applicants.
