Who is eligible?

• Provincial Sport Organizations.
• National Sport Organizations.
• Amateur sport clubs or teams.
• Host or organizing committees.
• Temporary organizations, committees, or sub-committees formed to organize a one-time amateur sport tournament.
• Colleges and universities affiliated with the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association or USports.

Who is not eligible

• Not-for-profit organizations whose primary purpose is not sport, including performing arts groups, ethnocultural organizations, agriculture societies, animal husbandry groups, and rodeo boards.
• Religion-based institutions, including churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, places of worship, and affiliates.
• Agencies whose primary purpose is grants allocation.
• For-profit organizations and committees or sub-committees for professional sporting events, or any other sport event with the express purpose of generating a profit.
• Federal or Provincial government departments and crown agencies, municipalities and their departments or agencies, schools and daycares, and past grant recipients who have not fulfilled reporting requirements.

Eligible expenses

• Venue/space rental costs and janitorial service fees connected to venue rental.
• Event equipment rental, including technology/electronics, and website development or livestream costs.
• Remuneration, mileage and accommodations for officials.
• Athlete, coach and staff transportation/travel costs within Manitoba, and coaching, official and athlete development associated with the event.
• Advertising/marketing costs, honoraria for temporary professional services, and volunteer hospitality expenses.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• For-profit or fundraising sports events; training activities, programming and league play; activities that are primarily recreational.
• Construction, renovation or other capital costs; utilities; fixed structures.
• Purchase of equipment.
• Travel or mileage for athletes, coaches, staff and officials from outside Manitoba.
• Hospitality, banquet and reception costs; awards and prizes; scholarships or grants; uniforms or merchandise for resale; salaries and benefits of Host organization employees.

Eligible geographic areas

• NORMAN, CENTRAL, INTERLAKE, PARKLAND, EASTMAN, WINNIPEG, WESTMAN, and BRANDON regions.

• Degree to which the proposed activities reflect the program objectives.
• Feasibility of the event.
• Impact of the event on the sport sector and the community where it takes place.
• Priority is given to events in rural or underserved regions and to events that support Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility and/or Indigenous Reconciliation.

• Review the eligibility criteria in the Application Guidelines.
• Complete the application form and include all required supporting documents specified in the guidelines.
• Email the completed application form and event budget to cgb-dsc@gov.mb.ca by 11:59 pm on the published due date.
• Contact the Community Grants Branch at cgb-dsc@gov.mb.ca for assistance if needed.

• Funding decisions are typically communicated 6-8 weeks from the published application deadline.
• Grants are paid in one installment after the event takes place, following receipt of the signed Funding Agreement, Final Report Form and Final Budget Template.
• The Final Report Form and Final Budget Template are due 30 days after completion of the event or provision of the Funding Agreement by Manitoba, whichever is later.
• Incomplete or late final reports may result in forfeiture, delay, or loss of grant funding.
• The Community Grants Branch may request additional information beyond that included in the application.
