Overview
WADA funds applied scientific research projects supporting anti-doping detection, the Athlete Biological Passport, or pharmacological studies. The maximum funding amount is not specified, and eligible activities include translational research leading to concrete deliverables within the funding period.
Activities funded
- Development or optimization of analytical tools to detect doping substances or methods
- Research to support the growth and use of the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP)
- Pharmacological studies of prohibited substances and drug combinations

- Projects in analytical chemistry, affinity-binding/biochemical methods, molecular biology, and “omics” methodologies for detection

Documents Needed
- Project description (max. 5 pages) covering objectives, methodology, experimental design, timelines, preliminary results, and references
- Researchers’ information (CVs), home institution details, and available resources
- For projects involving human subjects and/or human samples: local ethics committee approval, participant information letter, and consent form
- For projects involving animals: animal care committee approval
- Printed and signed original application form (signed by all investigators)
Eligibility
- The proposal must focus on development or optimization of analytical tools to detect doping substances or methods, the Athlete Biological Passport, or the pharmacology of prohibited substances and drug combinations.
- The project should have direct and imminent applicability in the fight against doping in sport.
- The proposal should emphasize translational research beyond the discovery stage.
- The project should aim to deliver concrete deliverables by the end of the funding period.

How to apply
Step 1: Prepare application package
- Write the application in English and include English translations of related documentation where relevant
- Compile the required enclosures (project description, researcher information, and approvals if applicable)
- Submit the application as required by the program
- Print the full original application form
- Obtain signatures from all investigators
- Send the signed original application form by mail
- If ethics committee approval documents are pending at submission, provide them once the project is approved for funding
- If animal care committee approval is pending at submission, provide it once the project is approved for funding
Processing and Agreement
- Applicants can expect a response to their proposal by mid-October.

- Responses to proposals can be expected by mid-October.
