Regroupement des Organismes de Bassins Versants du Québec
The Regroupement des Organismes de Bassins Versants du Québec (ROBVQ) brings together Quebec's watershed organizations to promote integrated and sustainable management of water resources. Through collaboration, expertise sharing, and public awareness, the ROBVQ plays a central role in the protection and enhancement of the province's water bodies.
What is a Watershed Organization?
Watershed organizations, known as OBVs, are local entities responsible for managing water resources within the natural boundaries of a watershed. They work with municipalities, citizens, and various partners to develop water master plans and implement actions promoting the quality and sustainability of water environments.
The Role of ROBVQ
ROBVQ serves as the collective voice and central hub for Quebec's OBVs. Its mission is to unify their efforts, promote best practices in water governance, and provide training and resources to its members. The group contributes to public policy through memorandums and publications and organizes regional and provincial events to advance the cause of water protection.
Key Projects and Programs
ROBVQ is behind several innovative projects addressing flood documentation, sustainable rainwater management, and ecological corridors. It supports educational initiatives like "Pensez Bleu" and the Month of Water, and facilitates access to practical resource kits for municipalities and the general public.
Public Involvement and Awareness
A major part of ROBVQ’s mission is public awareness. Through campaigns, web conferences, training, and citizen engagement, the group helps foster a water-conscious culture throughout Quebec. It encourages all stakeholders, from local governments to individual citizens, to get involved in protecting water resources.
A Network for Sustainable Water Governance
With its network of OBVs, the ROBVQ exemplifies collaborative water governance based on science, field expertise, and active participation. Its ongoing efforts are essential to adapt to climate challenges and ensure the long-term health of Quebec’s waterways.
