Role of Keranna Foundation Inc. in the funding ecosystem
Keranna Foundation Inc. is a non-profit charitable foundation created in 1992 to support Institut Secondaire Keranna, a private secondary school in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. Through campaigns and fundraising activities, the foundation channels private and community donations to educational initiatives and to the students and families who need them most.
The foundation’s resources are used in four main ways: granting financial aid to students whose parents are experiencing financial difficulties, supporting the school’s official Educational Project, nurturing a strong sense of belonging among alumni, and consolidating the heritage left by the founding religious community, the Filles de Jésus. Since its creation, the foundation highlights that it has transferred more than $1,600,000 to Institut Secondaire Keranna.
Funding focus and supported audiences
The primary beneficiaries of Keranna Foundation’s financial support are current students and their families, as well as the school community as a whole. Financial assistance helps ensure that a Keranna education remains accessible when family finances are strained. Additional funds are directed to projects and initiatives tied to the school’s pedagogical life, student life, and infrastructure, in line with the Educational Project.
The foundation also invests in activities that maintain and strengthen ties with former students, notably through conventum reunion events organized every ten years. These activities are seen as a way of reinforcing alumni engagement, which in turn supports the long-term vitality and funding of the institution.
Fundraising activities and governance
Keranna Foundation organizes various annual fundraising activities and appeals to the generosity of partners and individual donors. Donors are publicly recognized in categories based on their cumulative contributions, from governors to benefactor governors, which can include individuals, companies, and other foundations.
The organization is governed by a board of directors composed of representatives of parents, alumni, the community, school staff, students, the founding religious community, and the school’s general management. This board oversees the foundation’s mission, the proper functioning of the institute from a governance perspective, and the development of Keranna as a private faith-based teaching institution, ensuring that the financial support granted is aligned with the school’s values and long-term vision.
