Role of the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent in the funding ecosystem
The Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent (CTCF-CK) is the dedicated fundraising and funding arm for the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent, a specialized service provider for children and youth with physical, developmental and communication challenges. While the Centre receives core funding from the Government of Ontario, this public support does not cover all program and capital needs. The Foundation is responsible for generating roughly 10% of the Centre’s annual operating costs, as well as contributing to major projects such as the new purpose-built treatment facility.
Funds raised through individual donations, corporate gifts, campaigns and community events are allocated by the Foundation to priority programs and services. These include social work, therapeutic recreation, music therapy and other complementary therapies that help children build skills, confidence and independence. The Foundation also supports equipment, adapted recreation initiatives and, when required, additional therapies or program expansions presented to its Board of Directors for special funding consideration.
Supported audiences and overall impact
Through its financial support, CTCF-CK helps ensure that more than 5,000 children and youth from birth to age 21 across Chatham-Kent can access timely, high-quality therapy. The Foundation’s investments strengthen clinical services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, autism services, audiology and respite, as well as inclusive recreation and community participation opportunities.
The organization emphasizes stewardship, accountability and transparency, publishing annual impact reports and audited financial statements. Working closely with families, clinicians, donors and community partners, the Foundation’s funding decisions are aimed at sustaining vital services today while enabling long-term growth, reduced wait times and improved accessibility in the new treatment centre.
Transparency, governance and accountability
Guided by core values of respect, commitment, passion, integrity, stewardship and accountability, the Foundation maintains formal governance structures to oversee how donated funds are invested. Requests for additional support from the Children’s Treatment Centre are reviewed by the Foundation’s Board, helping to align funding with the most pressing clinical and infrastructure priorities. This combination of community fundraising and structured allocation makes CTCF-CK a key philanthropic funder within the local pediatric rehabilitation ecosystem.
