Role of the Anna-Laberge Foundation in the funding ecosystem
The Anna-Laberge Foundation is a community hospital foundation created in 1986 and based in Châteauguay, Quebec. It acts as a major financial partner of the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest for the Jardins‑Roussillon territory, supporting the Anna-Laberge Hospital, several long-term care centres, CLSCs and a maison des aînés. Using donations from individuals, businesses and community events, the foundation raises and manages funds to improve health services and overall well‑being, from birth to end of life.
The foundation’s core funding role is to provide financial support for the development of health services and programs. It does this mainly by purchasing advanced medical equipment, fitting out or upgrading care spaces, and backing innovative projects that humanize and transform care. The annual impact pages and reports show regular investments in diagnostic and monitoring devices, respiratory care equipment, maternity and pediatrics equipment, mental health and geriatrics tools, and comfort and quality‑of‑life improvements for patients and residents.
General approach to funded projects
Each year, the Anna-Laberge Foundation finances projects submitted by its institutional partners, notably CLSCs, CHSLDs and the Anna-Laberge Hospital. Projects are first presented to the relevant managers, then to the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest board for the Jardins‑Roussillon sector. The foundation allocates funding in line with its mission and financial capacity. Public examples from recent years include the purchase of multiparameter monitors, cardiac and imaging equipment, rehabilitation and mental health installations, palliative care improvements, as well as specialized furniture and environmental adaptations in care units.
Through this structured process, the foundation ensures that funded projects directly enhance access, quality and humanization of care across the region. Over the last five years, it reports more than $2.5 million invested in the local health network.
Publics served and impact
The foundation’s funding benefits a wide range of users: hospital patients, long‑term care residents, clients of CLSCs, mental health and rehabilitation services, and families using birth and pediatric services. Its geographic focus covers 24 municipalities within Jardins‑Roussillon. In addition to direct project funding, the foundation operates the Centre de santé Desjardins, a modern health centre offering rental spaces for clinics and services, further expanding local access to care.
Community engagement and campaigns
To sustain its funding capacity, the Anna-Laberge Foundation runs or supports numerous fundraising campaigns and community events such as golf tournaments, charity evenings, lotteries and sports challenges. Programs like the “Ambassadeurs de cœur” and “Ambassadeurs naissants” mobilize individual donors and business partners through structured annual contributions. The foundation publishes annual reports and impact stories to highlight transparency and the concrete results of donor generosity.
