Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Adera Foundation

Adera Foundation is a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) Christian charity dedicated to strengthening vulnerable families in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, particularly in the Korah community. Rather than making short-term project grants, Adera designs and finances multi-year programs that provide education, nutrition, healthcare, and income opportunities. Donor contributions are channeled into structured sponsorships and program funds that cover school fees, daycare operations, caregiver salaries, food rations, and economic development initiatives.

The organization’s core financial mechanisms are its Family Sponsorship and Education Sponsorship programs. Sponsors typically commit around $100 per month, which Adera aggregates to finance free daycare, private kindergarten places, primary education, daily school lunches, medical assessments, clothing, and food staples such as teff and oil for enrolled families. Adera staff and local government offices identify families most in need, and social workers assess households before inviting them into the programs.

Adera also funds the salaries of dozens of caregivers at the government-run Kebebe Tsehai Orphanage through a dedicated caregiver sponsorship stream. In its Economic Development portfolio, the Open Door Employment Program uses donor funding to provide training in vocational and business skills, connects participants to external training providers, and supports the launch of small businesses or job placement. Income-generating activities, such as basket weaving and jewelry production sold in U.S. retail outlets, create ongoing revenue for participating artisans.

Funding is directed primarily to mothers with young children, at-risk families, and school-aged children from preschool through grade 8. Programs aim to preserve family unity, break cycles of poverty, and foster self-sufficiency. Beyond material support, Adera integrates discipleship, character development, and parental training, reflecting its faith-based mission. The foundation publishes annual reports that summarize its activities and finances, providing transparency to donors and partners.

Adera collaborates with local Ethiopian schools, village councils, government offices and churches, as well as partner churches abroad. It invites congregations to engage through events, fundraising, sponsorships and short-term mission trips. These partnerships expand the scale of financial and in-kind support reaching families, schools and the Kebebe Tsehai orphanage.
