Overview of the Training and Career Support Program program
The CIHR Training and Career Support Program provides funding of up to $31.1 million over six years to strengthen Canadian health research capacity through innovative training, mentoring platforms, and career development for trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and early career researchers. Eligible activities include support for career readiness, leadership development, patient-oriented research, clinical trials training, and capacity building in diverse health research domains.
Financing terms and conditions
- Health System Impact Fellowship: $24 million invested from 2017 to 2021.
- Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (NEIHR): $100.8 million committed over 16 years.
- Healthy Cities Research Training Platform: $4.95 million over 6 years, plus $125,000 in development funding.
- Patient-Oriented Research Transition to Leadership Awards: $3.9 million over up to 3 years for Phase 1; $8,740,000 over up to 4 years for Phase 2.
- Health Research Training Platform pilot: $31.1 million over 6 years; Clinical Trials Training Platforms: $25.5 million over 3 years.
