Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Borrowers with a disability

Eligible expenses

  • Disability-related expenses that are not covered by an insurance plan or by a private or publicly funded program
  • Essential medical, dental, hearing, optical, chiropractic, registered massage therapy, and psychological or psychiatric care directly related to a permanent, persistent, or prolonged disability
  • Learning disability expenses, readers, assistive devices, and related technology
  • Home or automobile modifications required to accommodate a permanent, persistent, or prolonged disability

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Expenses covered by an insurance plan or a private or publicly funded program
  • Home or automobile modifications that are cosmetic or regular maintenance
  • Credit card debt, student lines of credit, monthly utility costs, commuting costs, and childcare may not qualify as exceptional expenses

  • Canada
  • Prince Edward Island borrowers must also apply through their province

How to apply

  • Download, complete and mail the Repayment Assistance Plan application.
  • Download, complete and mail the Disability Related Expense Form if you want disability-related expenses considered.
  • Provide the Verification of Disability Form if asked.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed after submission through the NSLSC online system or by mail.
  • If approved, the repayment assistance measures are applied for a 6-month period.
  • You must reapply every 6 months to remain on the plan.
  • If your disability is not permanent, you may need to confirm its status.

  • RAP-D is available for 6 months at a time.
