Selection criteria

  • Information reported on the tax return.

How to apply

  • File your 2025 income tax and benefit return.
  • For the OEPTC and/or NOEC components, complete the applicable areas of Form ON-BEN on your return.
  • To choose a delayed single OTB payment, tick box 61060 in the Choice for delayed single OTB payment area on Form ON-BEN when you initially file your return.

Processing and Agreement

  • The Canada Revenue Agency will use the information from your 2025 return to determine your eligibility and entitlement for the OSTC.
  • The CRA will send you a notice if you are entitled to receive the OTB.
  • If you choose to wait to receive the OTB in one payment and later change your mind, you can call 1-877-627-6645 or write to your tax centre.
  • If any of the listed situations occur during the benefit year, your accepted election will be revoked and any applicable retroactive entitlements will be issued at the same time.

  • The benefit is not taxable.
  • The Canada Revenue Agency issues the OTB on behalf of the Ontario provincial government.
  • If your OTB payment is owed to you and your election is revoked, any applicable retroactive entitlements will be issued at the same time.
  • If an estate receives an OTB payment for a month after the date of death, it must return the payment to the tax centre that served the deceased prior to their death.
