- The person whose T1 return is assessed first is the eligible OSTC recipient when both spouses are 64 years old or older.
- If the non-senior spouse’s return is assessed first, that spouse receives the OSTC until the senior spouse’s return is assessed.
- Any OSTC amounts received by the non-senior spouse must be paid back to the CRA, and a notice of redetermination is issued.
- After a death or separation, future OSTC amounts are calculated based on each person’s current status.
