Eligible expenses
- Consulting and professional services directly related to the project.
- Project-related administrative costs, communications, printing, translation, permits, and certifications.
- Marketing, public education, and outreach costs, including materials and media distribution.
- Supplies, materials, and equipment or tool rental or purchases needed for the project.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Wildfire response or suppression equipment.
- Prescribed burn activities.
- Normal operating costs of the organization.
- Pre-application consulting costs.
- Costs for staff already on the organization’s payroll.

Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed by Wawanesa and wildfire prevention experts from FireSmart Canada and ICLR.
- Wawanesa makes the final decision on eligibility, selection, and funding.
- Selected recipients may be required to sign Wawanesa’s Funding Agreement before funds are released.
- Applicants must follow Wawanesa’s terms and conditions after submission.
Additional information
- Applications from disproportionately affected communities may be prioritized.
- Applicants must provide a signed Letter of Support from a local fire department or other authorizing organization.
- A completed Budget Template must be attached to the application.
- The application process is scheduled to resume in fall 2026.
