Overview
Career-related work experiences for highly-skilled youth can be supported with funding covering up to 80% of eligible operating and delivery costs. Projects focus on mentored workplace experiences that build skills aligned with participants’ field of study or career goals.
Activities funded
- Career-related work experiences that provide employment experience and skills aligned with participants’ field of study or career goals
- Work experiences supported by workplace coaching and/or mentoring
Examples of admissible projects:
$ 315,000
Paid ten-month tech placements with structured mentoring and certifications
$ 248,000
Nine-month youth digital marketing rotations with coaching and employer placements
Documents Needed
Eligibility
- The applicant must be an eligible organization type (e.g., not-for-profit, for-profit, municipal government, Aboriginal organization, or provincial/territorial government entity).
- The proposal must include a minimum of 8 youth participants (exceptions may be considered in rural or remote regions with strong justification).
- The proposed activities must provide career-related work experiences tied to participants’ field of study or career goals.
- Work experiences must be supported by workplace coaching and/or mentoring.

How to apply
Step 1: Get clarification if needed
- Review the Applicant Guide for program requirements and instructions
- Request information or clarification if needed
- Describe the career-related work experience activities
- Include workplace coaching and/or mentoring plans
- Confirm the minimum of 8 youth participants or provide justification for an exception in rural/remote regions
- Plan the work experience duration (normally 6 to 12 months)
- Submit the application well ahead of the projected project start date
Processing and Agreement
Additional information
- Work experiences are normally at least six months and not more than twelve months.
- In rural and remote regions, an exception to the minimum participant requirement may be considered with strong justification in the proposal.
- The program promotes the benefits of advanced studies and helps highly-skilled youth transition into a changing labour market.
