Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Sinai Health Foundation (SHF)

Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Mount Sinai Hospital in Côte Saint‑Luc, Quebec. Created in 1973 by community leaders, it exists to raise funds and provide essential financial assistance so that the hospital can deliver outstanding care to patients and support their families and the staff who care for them. The Foundation focuses on bridging the gap between basic government operating funding and the real costs of delivering high‑quality, specialized care.

Donor contributions help sustain a wide range of hospital programs and services, including chronic pulmonary disease care, rehabilitation and physiotherapy, palliative and end‑of‑life care, and palliative home care that is explicitly funded by the Foundation. Funds are also used to acquire equipment and support services that improve patient comfort, safety and quality of life but fall outside regular public funding.

The Foundation’s primary beneficiaries are patients of Mount Sinai Hospital, along with their families and the hospital’s interdisciplinary staff. By investing in clinical programs, education and supportive services, the Foundation helps ensure that patients with complex and chronic conditions receive comprehensive, compassionate care. It also supports transitional care partnerships with acute‑care institutions, enabling patients to move safely from hospital to the appropriate level of follow‑up care.

Beyond direct patient services, the Foundation backs educational and research initiatives that contribute to maintaining a high standard of care and fostering innovation within the hospital. To generate this financial support, Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation organizes a portfolio of fundraising events and campaigns. Recurring activities such as Sinai’s Pickleball, Shoot & Score for Sinai, Bling It Back and other themed events mobilize donors and community partners to provide “much needed funding” for hospital priorities. These initiatives are complemented by targeted appeals and seasonal campaigns.

The Foundation also offers multiple ways to give, including general donations, in‑memory and in‑honour gifts, staff‑focused initiatives like the Love Sinai Staff Pin, and special programs such as Magic Moments. Since its formation in 1973, Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation has been governed by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of community members and leaders who oversee its strategic direction. A professional team, led by a Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for ethical fundraising practices and financial accountability to donors, the hospital and other stakeholders. The Foundation communicates its impact through tools such as an Annual Report of Giving, reinforcing transparency in how donations are used to benefit patients and hospital programs.
