Role of the Mont‑Saint‑Louis College Foundation in the funding ecosystem
The Mont‑Saint‑Louis College Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Collège Mont‑Saint‑Louis in Montréal. Its mission is to contribute to openness, engagement, self‑development and the well‑being of the Mont‑Saint‑Louis community by closely collaborating with the College and supporting initiatives that reflect these values. The Foundation mobilizes families, alumni and partners to finance projects that directly benefit students and the broader school community.
Funding themes and types of support
The Foundation channels donated funds into several complementary areas. A significant share is dedicated to student life, through annual contributions that help improve facilities, activities and services (for example, playroom equipment, outdoor amenities or specific student projects). The Foundation also supports educational and formative approaches such as the Programme Points de vue, the PHILO approach and other pedagogical innovations that foster critical thinking, citizenship and environmental awareness.
In addition, the Foundation offers bursaries targeting individual students and student groups. The Engagement bursary rewards civic engagement and social or community involvement, whether carried out by a single student or by a committee. The Envol bursary recognizes diverse pathways for graduating students, supporting original post‑college projects or highlighting exceptional academic and extracurricular trajectories. These bursaries are awarded annually, often in connection with the Gala Nelligan.
Beneficiaries and impact
Each year, the Foundation reports on the amounts granted to various initiatives, demonstrating concrete reinvestment of donations into the community. Over recent years, it has financed student life projects, equipment purchases, environmental and philosophical education projects, and multiple bursaries ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. The beneficiaries include individual students, student committees, school programs and occasionally partner community organizations.
Governance, campaigns and partnerships
The Foundation is overseen by a board of directors composed of alumni, parents and representatives of the College, including ex officio members such as the Foundation director and the College’s general director. It holds an annual general meeting where activities, financial statements and elections to the board are presented. To sustain and grow its capacity to fund projects, the Foundation conducts multi‑year fundraising campaigns, such as the 2021‑2026 campaign and the flagship project “Nourrir l’espoir!”, and recognizes donors through partner circles and public acknowledgements.
Through this structure, the Mont‑Saint‑Louis College Foundation acts as a key financial lever to enrich the educational environment of the College and to support the development of some 1,500 students each year.
