Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Kiwanis Foundation of Canada (KFC)

The Kiwanis Foundation of Canada is a registered national charitable foundation created to unite and strengthen Kiwanis service in Canada. Governed by a volunteer board of Kiwanians from the three Canadian Kiwanis districts, it channels donations from members, clubs, corporations and other partners into structured grant and scholarship programs. Its funding supports Kiwanis club projects that benefit children, youth and communities across Canada.

The Foundation operates several ongoing grant programs. These include Organized Youth Program Grants that provide annual contributions to Canadian youth organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs, Scouts, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, when sponsored by a local Kiwanis club. It also administers matching scholarship programs and named scholarships such as the Mel Osborne and John Button scholarships, helping students in need or those with strong academic performance pursue post‑secondary education.

Project-based grants focus on priority social and environmental needs. The Kiwanis Environmental Project Grant funds Kiwanis-led environmental initiatives, often involving young people in activities like community clean‑ups, tree planting and conservation projects. The Community Street Outreach Grant supports projects addressing basic needs of underserved youth—food, clothing, shelter and health care—through matching grants that leverage club resources and volunteer involvement.

The Foundation also invests directly in the growth and sustainability of Kiwanis in Canada. New Club Opening Grants provide start-up funding to new adult Kiwanis clubs, including contributions to the service accounts of both sponsoring and newly chartered clubs and follow‑on support tied to membership growth. Additional funding streams support Service Leadership Program (SLP) clubs for youth.

Beyond regular programming, the Foundation can mobilize special relief funds for emergencies and natural disasters, such as Caribbean or Jamaican hurricane relief efforts, using matching arrangements to amplify donations from Kiwanis clubs and individual donors.

Most grants are available to Kiwanis clubs in Canada that meet minimum annual contribution requirements to the Foundation (often a per‑member donation). Programs typically operate on an annual cycle, with clear deadlines—commonly May 31—for submitting applications by email. Application packages generally require a description of the project, timelines, youth impact, partner organizations, and detailed budgets. Many grants are structured as matching funding, where the Foundation matches eligible expenditures up to a maximum per project and within an overall annual envelope.

Approved clubs are expected to provide proof of expenditures and post‑project reports, including photos, impact summaries and financial details, so the Foundation can document results and share best practices. This combination of clear criteria, matching funds and reporting helps the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada maximize the impact of its philanthropic investments in communities nationwide.
