Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Grand Bend Area Health Services Foundation

Grand Bend Area Health Services Foundation (GBAHSF) is the fundraising arm of the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre (GBACHC) in Grand Bend, Ontario. Created in 2000, the Foundation exists to receive and distribute financial resources that are required to meet the capital needs of the health centre and to enhance the health services available to residents of the surrounding community. In a context where government grants, particularly in rural areas, do not fully cover capital requirements, the Foundation plays a critical role in closing the funding gap.

GBAHSF has financed major projects such as the construction of the Grand Bend site of the GBACHC and the acquisition of adjacent land for future expansion. It also supports technology and infrastructure investments, including electronic medical records systems, accessibility features such as a sound system for the hearing-impaired in the Adult Day Wing, and ongoing computer and facilities upgrades. In addition, the Foundation owns and manages the Gill Road Medical Centre, with net proceeds directed back to support its mission.

The Foundation channels private contributions into concrete health service improvements. Funds are raised through one-time donations, multi‑year pledges, special fundraising events, planned giving via estates or insurance, and memorial gifts recognized on a donor wall at the community health centre. These revenues are then allocated to capital projects and service enhancements that benefit patients and families served by the GBACHC, with an emphasis on long‑term sustainability of local health services.

GBAHSF is overseen by a volunteer board of directors and supported by one part‑time contract staff member. Community members are invited to participate as donors, event supporters or potential board members, reinforcing the Foundation’s community‑based governance model. Through transparent fundraising and targeted investments in facilities and equipment, the Foundation helps ensure that quality, locally accessible health care remains available in the Grand Bend area.
