Role of the Foundation in the funding ecosystem
The Foundation of the Corporation of University Services in Chaudière-Appalaches (FCSUCA) is a regional non-profit foundation created to provide Chaudière-Appalaches with lasting means to develop university-level education and research. Closely linked to the Centre universitaire des Appalaches (CUA), it raises capital through fundraising campaigns and directs these funds to concrete projects that strengthen access to university studies across the Beauce, Etchemins, Appalaches and Granit territories.
The foundation finances the launch and maintenance of regional cohorts, the development of new university offerings, the purchase of teaching materials and the modernization of technological infrastructures, including the network of interactive classrooms that allows programs to be delivered close to where students live and work.
Scholarships and student financial support
Since 2002, FCSUCA has run a structured scholarship program designed to encourage full-time university studies in CUA programs and to promote part‑time studies for people already in the labour market. Each year, the foundation awards scholarships to students who have distinguished themselves through their academic results, perseverance and engagement. Over the years, dozens of students have benefited from these scholarships, which recognize their efforts and help offset the financial burden of university studies.
The foundation also mobilizes partners such as local philanthropic organizations and advisory councils to increase the pool of funds available for scholarships. In some years, more than $20,000 has been distributed in awards, reflecting both growing partner engagement and an expansion in the number and value of scholarships.
Investments, partnerships and regional impact
Beyond individual scholarships, FCSUCA makes strategic investments in the CUA’s infrastructure and operations. Documented contributions include support for the creation and expansion of interactive classroom networks, operating funds, and targeted sums to launch and sustain small cohorts in specialized programs. Recent funding has backed modernization projects for the CUA’s technological infrastructure.
By aligning its funding with identified regional needs in higher education, the foundation helps increase university graduation rates, retain qualified graduates in the region and reduce youth out‑migration. Its governance is ensured by a board representing key local stakeholders, ensuring that financial support is directed to initiatives with the greatest educational, social and economic impact for Chaudière-Appalaches.
