Fondation Talan: Advancing Research in Neurodevelopmental Disorders
Our Mission
The Talan Foundation is committed to supporting both clinical and applied research on neurodevelopmental disorders related to attention, language, and learning (TALAN). By promoting scientific research, the foundation seeks to better understand, identify, and intervene in these disorders, ultimately offering high-quality services grounded in the latest scientific findings.
Research Initiatives
Talan Foundation is a key player upstream of other organizations, making a tangible difference through concrete solutions. The foundation provides:
- Excellence scholarships for university students whose research projects focus on TALAN-related conditions.
- Support for research projects at the Child and Adolescent Neuropsychology Laboratory (LÉNEA) at the University of Montreal.
Understanding Neurodevelopmental Disorders (TALAN)
Recent studies indicate that neurodevelopmental disorders, including TALAN, affect between 1% and 17% of individuals depending on the specific disorder. Moreover, 5% to 15% of school-aged children have a specific learning disorder, with dyslexia-dysorthographia being the most common.
- Attention Disorders: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is characterized by behavioral deficits and often associated with cognitive challenges.
- Language Disorders: Developmental Language Disorder is linked to atypical brain development affecting language abilities.
- Learning Disorders: Dyslexia-dysorthography affects written language (reading and spelling), while dyscalculia impacts mathematical abilities.
How to Help
