Role of Fondation Horace-Boivin in the funding ecosystem
Fondation Horace-Boivin is a non-profit charitable foundation associated with the CSSS de la Haute-Yamaska – CHSLD mission in the Granby region of Québec. Its core role is to receive, manage and redistribute private donations, legacies and other voluntary contributions in order to enhance the living environments of people with a loss of autonomy who are housed in long-term care centres (CHSLD), intermediate resources and other residential facilities. Since the creation of CHSLD Horace-Boivin in 1989, the foundation reports having invested more than one million dollars in initiatives that directly benefit residents.
Main funding themes and types of support
The foundation primarily finances projects that improve day-to-day quality of life rather than basic clinical care. This includes funding recreational activities, craft workshops, outings and related transportation, as well as the purchase of materials such as games, craft supplies and various equipment that facilitates participation in activities or adapts the environment for people in loss of autonomy. The foundation also supports special projects and programs designed for beneficiaries of the CSSS de la Haute-Yamaska – CHSLD mission across several pavilions, including Omer-Deslauriers, Louis‑G. Choinière, Jules‑Crevier, Maison Bergeron‑Jetté and CHSLD Leclerc.
General approach to funding and impact
Fondation Horace-Boivin acts as a financial and community partner to the local health and social services network. It centralizes donations, manages and invests the funds responsibly, then redistributes them through activities, programs and special projects that are aligned with the needs identified in the living environments. The supported initiatives aim to maintain or stimulate residents’ autonomy, foster social interaction, and create warm, human-scale settings in intermediate resources that serve as a transition between home and institutional long-term care.
Governance, volunteers and community engagement
The foundation is governed by a board of directors composed of volunteers from the community and from the care environments. It explicitly seeks to inform and sensitize the population about the reality and needs of people in loss of autonomy and about the programs and activities offered in CHSLD settings. In parallel with its financial role, the foundation develops a network of volunteers who support activities and help animate the living environments. Through this combined financial and human contribution, the foundation aims to multiply the impact of each donation on the daily lives and well-being of the residents and their families.
