Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Fondation de la Maison du Père

Fondation de la Maison du Père is the philanthropic arm of La Maison du Père, an established Montréal organization dedicated to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of it. The foundation mobilizes individual, corporate and institutional donations and channels these resources into a continuum of services ranging from prevention and emergency shelter to social reintegration, permanent housing and health care. Its funding supports operations such as the emergency shelter beds, the seniors’ residence, psychosocial follow-up in housing and complementary services like employability and legal support.

Among the initiatives backed by the foundation and delivered by La Maison du Père, the Prevention service plays a key role in direct financial support. It provides mediation with landlords, trust services for rent payment and, crucially, rent assistance through the Banque d’aide au loyer. This mechanism offers temporary financial support to households facing eviction because of a circumstantial event such as job loss, health problems or separation. Applications are analyzed according to defined criteria, including repayment capacity, and once accepted the payment is made directly to the landlord in exchange for a quittance, with a debt recognition signed between the participant and La Maison du Père.

The FAQ further clarifies that the rent-aid bank is aimed at people at immediate risk of losing their housing, and that eligibility is based on a financial assessment and demonstration of urgent need. This positions the foundation and its operating organization as a provider of targeted financial aid designed to prevent homelessness and stabilize housing situations in Greater Montréal.

The foundation’s resources sustain services that reach adults aged 25 and over, including a large population of older adults, as well as, through some programs, women and families. Funding helps maintain emergency beds, proximity health care (including specialized and palliative care), social reintegration units, seniors’ housing and long-term accompaniment in independent housing. Impact reports published annually demonstrate how donated funds translate into numbers of people housed, households supported, and housing stability rates, giving donors and partners transparent insight into outcomes.

Each year, audited financial statements are produced separately for La Maison du Père and the Fondation de la Maison du Père by an external CPA firm. Impact reports and newsletters explain how funds are allocated across programs, while the board of directors and management team ensure sound governance, risk management and strategic development. Through fundraising campaigns, corporate events such as the Dragon Boat challenge, and planned giving, the foundation continually develops new funding streams to sustain and expand financial assistance and services to people affected by homelessness.
