How to apply

  • Step 1: Attend an Information Session
    • Register for a Self Employ PEI Information Session through the official registration button.
    • Attend the session, held remotely every Friday from 10 am to 11 am (excluding statutory holidays).
    • Deadline to register is noon the day before the session.
  • Step 2: Meet with Program Officer/Case Manager
    • Schedule an assessment meeting after attending the Information Session.
    • Complete a needs assessment and develop a Return to Work Action Plan.
  • Step 3: Prepare Application Package
    • Complete the Self Employ Suitability Assessment questionnaire.
    • Fill out the Self Employ PEI Application for Funding (obtained from your SkillsPEI Program Officer).
    • Prepare a detailed business plan demonstrating viability and potential for long-term success.
    • Gather proof of investment or financing.
    • Prepare your resume.
  • Step 4: Submit Application
    • Submit your complete application package (including the application form, business plan, proof of financing, and resume) to your SkillsPEI Program Officer.
  • Step 5: Application Review and Approval
    • SkillsPEI reviews your application package against program criteria.
    • Upon approval, you will receive confirmation and can proceed to operate your business.

Additional information

  • Information sessions for the program are held remotely via Microsoft Teams or telephone every Friday, except on statutory holidays.
  • The deadline to register for an information session is noon the day before the session.
  • Resources such as business plan templates and financial proformas are available to applicants.
  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis with no fixed deadline.
