Eligible expenses

  • Direct labour for project work
  • Subcontracting and consultancy fees in Canada
  • New equipment, rental, operation, and maintenance
  • Materials and supplies used by the project
  • Software, licenses, travel, and IP-related costs

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Retroactive costs incurred before project start
  • Building or land purchase and infrastructure costs
  • Routine operations, overhead, and production-related costs
  • Marketing, advertising, entertainment, and gifts
  • Costs already covered by other government funding

Processing and Agreement

  • Projects are first screened for basic eligibility and scope.
  • Financial due diligence is completed for participating partners.
  • Eligible full applications are reviewed by up to five independent experts.
  • NGen notifies applicants of the decision after assessment.
