- Detailed project description, including objectives, planned activities, timelines, expected results, and impact on the applicant's artistic development
- One copy of visual documentation of previous work in the appropriate format to the discipline
- For applicable project types, proof of acceptance and a detailed description, schedule, and budget for the training program or course of study; a completed and signed contract with the commissioner and a plan for the exhibition, presentation, display, publication, screening or performance of the commissioned work; or a detailed marketing plan

Who is eligible?

- Collaborating artists, ensembles, and collectives, if all project co-owners meet the individual eligibility criteria
Who is not eligible
- Applicants, including ensembles or collectives, that are incorporated under either provincial or federal legislation.
- Collaborations, ensembles, or collectives, or their members, that operate as a for-profit business or production company.
Eligible expenses
- Contracted artist and/or technician fees, commission fees, production, and promotion/publicity
- Transportation and accommodation, tuition or training fees, royalties, and administration and contract fees
- Basic living/subsistence expenses, including housing, local transportation, food, childcare, and dependent care, up to $3,000/month
- Other expenses and supplies considered by the AFA to be reasonable and necessary
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Capital purchases, capital development, and studio construction or renovations
- Recreational training projects
- Specific component activities undertaken as part of a course of study
- Contracts for ongoing activities or artists pursuing projects similar in scope to usual activities with commissioner
- Expenses incurred before the application is submitted, including grant writer fees

Processing and Agreement
- Eligible project applications are reviewed by an expert panel.
- Expert panels meet in Edmonton to deliberate funding applications after reviewing eligible applications through GATE.
Additional information
- Applications are submitted through the GATE Front Office online system.
- Successful recipients are usually notified 4 to 6 months after the deadline.
- Funding recipients must acknowledge the AFA in project publicity whenever possible.

To be eligible for the AFA — Dance Individual Project Funding program, you must:
Must be a resident of Alberta with primary residence in Alberta for at least one full year before applying and ordinarily live in Alberta for at least six months of each year, except while attending a formal program of study.
Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person with an open work or study permit from inside Canada.
Must be in good standing with the AFA with no open or outstanding projects or reporting, and previous grant recipients must have all final reporting approved before new applications are accepted.
